Green tourism needs watering

The take-up rate of single houses and townhouses in the first six months almost doubled year-on-year due to government tax incentives and a mass transit kickoff, according to property consultant Agency for Real Estate Affairs (AREA). Managing director Wason Khongchantr said pent-up demand from last year was stimulated by the tax incentives. Most homebuyers shifted to buy low-rise units instead of condominiums as they would get tax benefits before they expire on March 28 of next year.

TAT confident it can reach its target

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is confident of achieving the arrival target of 7.02% growth this year to 15.48 million despite concern that political tensions might scare travellers. Aapico aims for revenues of B20bn in five years

Automotive parts maker Aapico Hitech Plc plans to spend two billion baht during 2008-09 to build three new factories in Thailand in a move to double its revenue to 20 billion baht in the next five years. Chief executive Yeap Swee Chaun said the new factories at the Amata City Industrial Estate in Rayong would be finished next year.
