Training for successful rural renewal programme

ALGIERS - Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Rachid Benaissa stressed Thursday in Algiers the importance of training in the implementation of the Rural Renewal Programme (RRP). While taking the floor during a national workshop on the assessment of local actors training programme, organized by the National Centre for Studies and Analyses for Population and Development (CENEAP), Benaissa said the five-year programme (2007-2013) "is based on cooperation and dialogue development between all social classes." In this regard, he pointed out that the country has a potential of highly skilled people and managers." Thus, it is necessary to develop dialogue and listening in order to accumulate these resources, he added.

Arab League and Sudan agree to resolve crisis in Darfur

CAIRO (Egypt) - The Arab League has reached with the Sudanese government an agreement on political and legal measures likely to resolve Darfur’s crisis, (west Sudan), announced Wednesday the League in a release. The contacts the Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa made with the Sudanese leaders, the opposition chiefs and tribal representatives in Darfur during his visit to Khartoum over the past two days helped find a common ground on a series of political and legal steps in an effort to resolve the crisis in Darfur in collaboration with the Arab League, the African Union (AU) and the United Nations, thus confirming the competence and the independence of the Sudanese justice and strengthening the role of the United Nations-African Union peacekeeping mission in Darfur (UNAMID).

Attack on Sahrawi fishers: Ban Ki-Moon urged to react rapidly

BIR LEHLU- Mohamed Abdelaziz Sahrawi President and General Secretary of Polisario Front urged Tuesday UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon to "react rapidly to stop the colonial practices of the Moroccan government" in Western Sahara occupied zones, the Sahrawi news agency (SPS) reported.This call was launched after the "attack", dubbed "barbaric" by Sahrawi ministry of Occupied Territories and Diaspora, perpetrated by thousands of Moroccan settlers against hundreds of Sahrawi fishers in the night of Monday to Tuesday in Einterfet region (65km north of Dakhla) in the Sahrawi occupied territories.

Baccalaureate 2008: Best successful students honoured by President Bouteflika

ALGIERS - President Abdelaziz Bouteflika honoured Tuesday the 126 best baccalaureate holders for the 2007-2008 school year and handed over medals to them for the highest marks they got in all the classes at the Palais du Peuple, Algiers, during a ceremony held in the presence of leading state dignitaries and members of the government. Furthermore, he gave presents to other successful students including the disabled. In this regard, National Education Minister Boubekeur Benbouzid said in his speech that beyond the formal nature of this ceremony, President of the Republic tends to encourage science and knowledge, and paid a vibrant tribute to him for his personal interest in young students.

ALGIERS- President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika honoured Tuesday in the Palais du Peuple (Algiers) Athletes Imad Touil and Souhir Bouali.Certificates and symbolic presents have been granted by Head of State to both athletes.Imad Touil was crowned last 10 July in Bydgoszcz (Poland) World Junior Champion of 1500m, while Souhir Bouali ranked 4th in 200m race event in the same championship.Both athletes expressed their "delight" after receiving this award and strive for more achievements in 2012 Olympic Games.

President Bouteflika honours baccalaureate holders

ALGIERS - President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika honoured Tuesday at the “Palais du Peuple” in Algiers the baccalaureate holders of 2007-2008 school year. The ceremony was attended by leading state dignitaries, members of the government, as well as the relatives of the successful students. The success rate for 2008 baccalaureate examination reached 53.19%, 36.68% of candidates passed with distinction. The overall success rate includes the winners of the old and new syllabus, in addition to free candidates and winners of private institutions. The success rate of the new syllabus stood up to 55.04 %, an unprecedented rate since the independence versus 50.22 % for the candidates of the ancient syllabus. Furthermore, three students passed, for the first time since the independence, with "excellent" distinction.

OPEC excess capacity to meet any rise in demand

ALGIERS - Energy and Mines Minister and Current President of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Chakib Khelil, said Monday that the countries of the Organization have "a considerable surplus oil production capacity likely to meet any rise in demand and offset any inadequacy resulting from supply disruption." In his speech made in the wake of the meeting of the Executive Council of the Arab Federation of Oil, Mines and Chemicals, Khelil said that OPEC "defines its strategy in the medium and long terms, as the significant investment programmes initiated by the member countries show, involving not only exploitation and production but also increasing oil supply."
